Buyer's guide for mid-size and large GCs

Big-company construction software, without the big-company bill.

A mid-size or large general contractor needs every tool across every job: daily logs, drawings, RFIs, submittals, schedules, budgets, subcontracts, sub pay apps, owner billing, change orders and a cost forecast leadership can trust, with approvals and access controls that fit how the company runs.

Axion PM does that for $499 a month for the whole company, with unlimited users and projects. Procore prices on your construction volume and Autodesk Build on your user count, so the bill grows every time you do. Here's how they compare, and where the others still fit better.

Built for running a lot of jobs.

Company dashboard
Every open job's contract, cost at completion, profit, margin against bid, over/under billing and cash in one place, with a Needs Attention list for jobs over budget, fading profit, underbilling or slipping schedules.
Cost forecast by job
Estimated cost at completion by cost code, PM overrides with notes, locked monthly snapshots, profit fade and cash flow, ready to print for the monthly job review.
Approval steps you set
Company-wide approval paths for sub pay apps, schedules of values and change order requests, with per-job overrides, emails to whoever's turn it is and a full review history.
Job roles and permissions
PM, APM, super, safety, accounting, office and executive roles, plus company templates for what owners, architects and subs can see. Set once, applied on every job.
Money that stays locked
Approved pay apps, certified G702 totals and signed change orders are locked. Subs never see your budget, and owners never see drafts.
Accounting hand-off
Approved costs and bills export to Excel, QuickBooks Online and Sage, with what's been sent marked so nothing goes twice.

Where Procore or Autodesk fit better.

We'd rather you pick the right tool. If your company needs any of these today, look hard at the bigger platforms: single sign-on through your identity provider, a live two-way connection to an ERP like Viewpoint or CMiC, an open API for in-house developers, BIM model coordination, takeoff and estimating in the same system, or bid management. Axion PM covers the day-to-day project and money work; it doesn't do those yet.

How to choose.

Price it at next year's size
Ask what the renewal costs if your volume grows 30% or you add 20 people. A flat company price doesn't move.
Count who actually needs a login
Supers, APMs, accounting, every sub and the owner's rep. Per-user pricing pushes companies to share logins or leave people out.
Check the money tools are included
Sub pay apps with retainage, owner billing, change orders and the forecast are where a GC makes or loses money. Make sure they aren't a separate product.
Run one real job in it
Put a live project through a full month (daily logs, a pay app cycle, a change order) before you commit the whole company.

One price for your company.

A lot of construction software is priced on your annual construction volume, so the bill goes up every time you win more work. Axion PM is one flat price, no matter how many jobs you run or how big they get.

Common questions.

What is the best construction project management software for a mid-size or large general contractor?

If you run many jobs at once and want every tool for every person without the price climbing as you grow, Axion PM covers the field and the money for $499 a month flat, with unlimited users and projects. If you need single sign-on, a direct ERP connection or BIM model coordination today, Procore or Autodesk Build fit better.

Why does construction software get so expensive as a GC grows?

Most platforms price on something that grows with you: Procore on your annual construction volume, Autodesk Build on the number of users. Winning more work or hiring more people raises the renewal, even when nothing about the software changes.

Can Axion PM handle a company with dozens of jobs and a large team?

Yes. Projects and users are unlimited. Staff get job roles (PM, APM, super, safety, accounting, office, executive) that set which tools they see, project managers only see their own jobs unless you give them more, and owners, architects and subs see only their one project with the access their role allows.

Does Axion PM have approvals and controls a larger company needs?

Yes. You set approval steps for sub schedules of values, pay apps and change order requests at the company level and override them per job (for example super, then PM, then accounting). Two-step sign-in is built in, money tools are locked by role, and approved pay apps and signed change orders can't be quietly changed.

Does it connect to our accounting system?

Axion PM exports approved sub pay apps, owner bills, subcontracts and change orders to Excel, QuickBooks Online import files and Sage job-cost files, and marks what's already been sent. There's no live two-way ERP connection yet, so firms that need one (Viewpoint, CMiC and similar) should weigh that.

How much storage is included?

1 TB for the whole company, with more at $50 a month per extra TB. Drawings are processed into a fast tile viewer, so large sets open quickly in the field.

Can we try it before talking to anyone?

Yes. 30 days free with no credit card and no sales call. You start inside a fully built sample project, and you can import your cost codes, directory and budgets from Excel.

  1. 1. Procore doesn't publish prices; it quotes on annual construction volume and the products chosen. Ranges are third-party estimates (OneCrew, Projul, CostBench), October 2026; your quote may differ.
  2. 2. Autodesk Build is sold per user, with sheet tiers and quoted unlimited-user plans. About $135–$165 per user a month billed yearly per third-party estimates (ERP Research, Workyard), October 2026; the 50-user figure is our math from that range. Feature notes from Autodesk's public pages.
  3. 3. Procore and Autodesk Build are trademarks of their owners and aren't affiliated with Axion PM. Check details with each vendor; they can change.

Built by a builder. Try it on your next job.

Axion PM was built by a working general contractor, around how a job actually runs: logs from the field, questions from subs, pay apps at the end of the month, and a cost meeting where the numbers have to hold up.
